Abstract
The purposes of this study were to investigate the restricted and repetitive patterns of behaviors of students with Autism Spectrum Disorders and to analyze restricted and repetitive behaviors of students with Autism Spectrum Disorders according to age and intelligence. The subjects of this study were the parents of 166 students with Autism Spectrum Disorders from 27 educational institutions in Seoul, Gyeonggi Province, and Chungcheong Province, who responded to the Repetitive Behavior Scale Revised-Korean Version. Mean, standard deviation, and one-way ANOVA were implemented for analysing the data. The results of the study were as follows. First, the most frequent behaviors were ¡®restricted Behaviors,¡¯ followed by ¡®insistence on sameness,¡¯ ¡®stereotyped motor movement,¡¯ ¡®resistance to change,¡¯ and ¡®hyper- or hypo-reactivity to sensory input¡¯. Second, analysis on the basis of age showed that as students with Autism spectrum Disorders got older, they showed more ¡®compulsive behavior¡¯ and ¡®Ritualistic behavior¡¯. The group of children under age five showed ¡®stereotyped behavior¡¯ ¡®self-injurious behaviors,¡¯ and ¡®compulsive behaviors¡¯ most frequently. Third, analysis on the basis of intelligence showed that the group of students with intelligence lower than 50 showed more ¡®stereotyped behavior,¡¯ ¡®compulsive behaviors,¡¯ and ¡®self-injurious behavior¡¯. The limitations of the study, suggestions for future studies, and the implications for special education settings were discussed as well.
